thanks almostinfamous,

we have at long last realising our potentials,
on the the verge of 'exploding' on to the world's stage,
it would be a criminal act to allow us to be handcuffed in the name of business.

The proposed nuclear deal will give us a tiny 6% of our estimated energy requirements.
Give away our 60 years sovereingty for 6%; that is betrayal.

totally agree with you, especially this part:

I do not want to return to a country entangled in US’s designs in South Asia.
I do not care who asks these questions, be they the Left, the Right or the Center,
I want the deal to be put on hold, while those who understands can study the deal.

we do not need to be bound by anyone else's idea of what the world should look like and it's about time we exrcised our status as a so-called 'world power' to say no to this deal

Thanks Govind for stopping by.
I totally agree with you.

I don't think we can erase nuclear energy from India,
just because we have reached a stage where we need lots of energy and quickly.

That is what this controversy is about.
Uranium from America is going to be quick, drive-thru BigNuke the latest American fast food.

Our ex-President was saying last year we can be energy independant by 2030 through renewable sources and our own indigenous Thorium reactors.

We do not have to irradiate our country with American uranium.

True indeed.

And coming out of the politics of it...the need for nuclear fuel - as a source of energy - is both a stupid and mindless idea.

The need to shift to nuclear is not just because of the dwindling fossil fuels in the present day but also the polluting (read climate change) effects of the use of the latter.

However, what no one is realizing is that just one leak...one freak accident - one mistake (remember Chernobyl, Three Mile Island...) or worst - just one terrorist strike at the nuclear facility - and all that we have been doing to save the environment will be UNDONE in a fraction of a second.

The US still does not know what to do with its nuclear waste. Nevada I am told....but when I hear about the US's ships roaming all over the oceans - I think I get the idea.

The bottomline is - Nuclear Energy is a scarey idea. It should not be an option for the West or for India and we badly need to work on alternate sources of energy - which should now be our main focus.
