It might seem to you to be a trivial point of detail to comment on – but it is rather fundamental to the argument you are presenting in this post as to the motives (as you perceive them to be) of Gordon Brown and David Miliband.

Yes, you could accuse me of being fastidious. I hold to the view that sloppy writing, inattention to detail, loose presentation of ‘facts’ often indicates a sloppy thinker. A point I used to frequently make to students when marking their work – if you wish to be certain your target audience ‘hears’ exactly what you intend them to hear, then try to avoid ambiguity in what you write. It may not have made me popular with them, but hopefully they were ‘better’ communicators as a result of heeding my advice.
