Bookends

Time it was,
and what a time it was,
it was
A time of innocence,
a time of confidences

Long ago,
it must be,
I have a photograph
Preserve your memories;
They’re all that’s left you

Lyrics: Paul Simon and Arthur Garfunkel

Album: Bookends 1968 – Track: Bookends Theme

Somewhere I read the description of this album as “….a meditation on the passage of life and the psychological impact of life’s irreversible ever-accumulating losses”.

I was twelve or thirteen when I first heard these lines.
When a bit older and learnt to strum and hum a bit, I would sing it to myself.
Now with maybe two-thirds of my life behind me, I find I spend my time in reminiscing.
Life has come around in a circle…or is that a line from another song?
