on with the show

Posted by littleindian on September 9, 2007. |

Written by May and Mercury over a chord sequence created by Deacon and Taylor.
It is rumoured that in the demo tapes Brian May sang sections in falsetto
because they were too high but Freddie Mercury hit the notes
without problems and recorded the song in just one take.

In my daydreams I have been freddie mercury.
If ever, in some other plane of existence my freed soul is asked,
what I would like to return as, to live another life, I would say without hesitation –
Freddie Mercury.
this is why.

the show must go on – Queen

Empty spaces – what are we living for
Abandoned places – I guess we know the score
On and on, does anybody know what we are looking for…

Another hero, another mindless crime
Behind the curtain, in the pantomime
Hold the line, does anybody want to take it anymore

The show must go on, the show must go on
Inside my heart is breaking, my make-up may be flaking
But my smile still stays on
.

Whatever happens, I’ll leave it all to chance
Another heartache, another failed romance
On and on, does anybody know what we are living for?

Freddie mercury

I guess I’m learning, I must be warmer now
I’ll soon be turning, round the corner now
Outside the dawn is breaking, but inside in the dark

I’m aching to be free

My soul is painted like the wings of butterflies
Fairytales of yesterday will grow but never die
I can fly – my friends

The show must go on, the show must go on
I’ll face it with a grin, I’m never giving in
On – with the show –

I’ll top the bill, I’ll overkill, I have to find the will to carry on
On with the – On with the show – The show must go on…
on go on go on go on go on go on go on go on go on go on go on go on go on go on go

The Album: The Show Must Go On was released six weeks before Freddies death.

  1. Undoubtedly, Freddie Mercury had huge talent both as a performer and a singer/songwriter.

I’ve never really took notice of those song lyrics but they’re really quite sad aren’t they.

  2. Thanks earthie,
    He was an amazing performer.
He ruled the stage, he ruled over his audience.

They had written some lovely words, but most have been lost underneath other songs the likes of; Rock you, Bites the Dust, Radio GaGa and the Bohemian Rhapsody.

This one was written mostly by Brian May, when the band knew Freddie was terminally ill. To me it was Freddie’s goodbye song.

I listen to it when I am fed up and feel like giving up my fights.
