for God’s sake …
… what kind of a religion, in the twenty-first century
can dictate this:
Top Afghan policewoman shot dead
BBC News | Sunday, 28 September 2008 12:04 UK
Malalai Kakar was not allowed to work as a police officer under the Taleban
Gunmen in the southern Afghan city of Kandahar have killed the country’s most prominent policewoman, officials say.Lt-Col Malalai Kakar, head of Kandahar’s department of crimes against women, was shot in her car as she was about to leave for work.
Taleban rebels, who banned women from joining the police when they were in power, said they had carried out the shooting.“We killed Malalai Kakar,” a Taleban spokesman told AFP news agency.
“She was our target, and we successfully eliminated our target.”
Every individual, regardless of religion, has to ask themselves if there is a place
for 7th century rules in this 21st century world we live in –
we have no other option but to share.
Can the excuse of “religious tolerance” overrides an individual’s basic human rights?
Should we, the humans of this entire world, take the blame for this individual’s murder?

I can only think the kind of religion that would do this…is not the religion but rather its sick participants. There are a number of “issues” in most of the world’s religions, take the US version of right-wing Christianity for example. The Taliban is misogynistic and violent among other terrible qualities. I’m reminded of an old episode of “Law & Order” where a white American man becomes a Muslim and them murders a woman who offended his ‘manhood.’ Men who are threatened by women so much so that they must have total control of them are weak, and certainly not manly. May Malalai rest in peace. Godspeed to her.
Thank you for the post. I found you through Naj’s blog. Nice place you have here.

Really SICK i would call that too! sick in their minds…yes! how can one human kill another? only if you feel nothing for anyone! That means you hate yourself too… love your neighbour (whoever he/she is) as you love yourself.

I was sickened by this too Little Indian. Nothing can justify it. The Taleban regime is oppressive and cruel. They might not have official power any more but they are determined to enforce their sick values and their twisted version of Islam upon Afghanistan.
